Throwbacks

It's no secret that the radio stations in Memphis completely blow. We finally got an awesome "generation x" station that played 90s music, but it just changed to a news talk show. Although it seems to be quite right wing, which is a nice alternative to liberal NPR (not judging... I can roll with both), I see it as a loss. I finally juiced up my ipod and was shuffling on my way to work, when a song came on that instantaneously brought a memory to mind. Then I got to thinking... what are some songs that so vividly remind me of certain times from my past???

Runaway Train (Soul Asylum)-- This song brings me back to the 4th grade. We were rewarded fake money for good grades/behavior, and could use that money to buy things at a "market." Anyways, this girl I sat next to made a mixed tape with this song repeated 20 times for this other guy in the class. He paid her 20 fictitious dollars for said mixed tape.... which she lost, and I found. I didn't realize that someone was searching for this tape when I found it loitering by the cubbies, so I figured it was just my lucky day. However, I still didn't give up my new treasure when Karen came to me asking if I've seen her tape.... hell to the no! Instead, I went home, popped that bad boy in my tape player and listened to Runaway Train.... 20 times. For free.

Ray of Light (Madonna)-- In 8th grade, none of us were old enough to date, so we would go to the movies in big groups. Of course we would be with our BF/GF's, but it was a group, so we weren't technically on a date. Whatever. I remember this song playing in the AMC movie theater while I was using the restroom. I left the movie because it was, of course, something I wasn't interested in seeing at all.... but my boyfriend paid for my ticket (with the money his mom gave him), so I acted excited at first. Being so bored, I bought time going to the bathroom and looking at all the posters for upcoming movies. I thought I was doing myself a favor by coming back just in time for credits to roll, but he probably just thought I was going #2. Bummer.

Uninvited (Alanis Morissette)-- This is where life got scandalous. Well, not really, but I thought so at the time. This song screams "middle school romance" to me. You see, I had a boyfriend that I was soooooo smitten with and we were on another group date. We went to see the movie "City of Angels," which I ironically was interested in seeing. Too bad we made out the entire movie! Sorry mom, I swear that was all I did! I thought I was so cool and so in love... too bad I was a giant cliche! To make matters worse, the theater was super crowded and his best friend (who had never kissed anyone before) was sitting right next to us! Poor guy's head was six inches from two losers sucking face. All that making out was probably making him sweat through his noxzema! How tacky was I?! Anyways, the only thing I know about this movie is that in the preview, they played this song while Meg Ryan was on her bike. That's it.

Remix to Ignition (R. Kelly)-- This song is so freshman year of college. I just remember living across the hall from Halee Griggs, hearing it for the first time, and being like, "girlfriend, pump up the jams! I like this one!" Therefor, she humored me every time we pre partied and requested that it be played. I couldn't get myself amped up for the par-tay without hearing it. I still listen to it with a sense of nostalgia. I see ourselves in Knight Hall with a bottle of tvarski vodka and sweet and sour. And then I throw up in my mouth a little. @toomuchcheapvodkatolastalifetime.

Promise I will be better about blogging.... Muy lazy lately!!

Fun Foto Friday

This is a major throwback and only a few people will appreciate it, but this is one of my favorite pictures from college. I can honestly say that, so far in life, my four years at Georgetown College were the best yet. Pictured here are some of my best friends, and sisters. I sooooo very much miss the days of living in the Sigma house, walking to the caf, and hanging out on east campus. Does anyone else wish they had a tiger stalker on a boring week night? I could probably track one down and make a few prank calls... "are you a Disney princess?!?!"

Three Things Thursday

1.) My co-worker Okie (Okes, as I call her) cooked me a delicious batch of her beef curry. She knows how much I love her cooking and in her generous Korean nature, she loves to share. She also loves to feed you, if you let her. Like, literally feed you. I usually make sure whatever is about to get shoved in my mouth doesn't have eyes or tentacles. Anyways, she made enough for me to live off of in case of a natural disaster, and I have completed night number two of beef curry for dinner. It's sooooo good, but I don't know if I can muster up night number three. I'd share with H and H, but I fear the curry explosion that may ensue. My apartment now smells like curry and I can't honestly tell you I hate it.

2.) I had a major throwback the other day and it completely rocked my soul. Just a little song called "call me" by Tweet. Saying this song is the JAM would be an understatement. Lordy, you know I have it on replay all up in the Rogue. Also, Jeremih/50 cent's "down on me" is one I just can't get enough of right now. A fun fact about me is that I have a soft spot in my heart for 50. I'm not even mad at the fact that he has been shot 9 times, a few of which in the face. Whatevs...

3.) All frivolous money spending has been put to a screeching halt. This does, unforch, include the Tory Burch Louiisa messenger bag. Although Tory said that a white leather bag is essential for spring/summer... I digress. This is happening because I am possibly planning a top secret weekend getaway. So... the only things I will spend money on are as follows:

-Gas...cuz I gotta get to work, yo.
-Groceries... and I'm not too good for coupon clipping and off brands!
-Henry's daycare... because fixing his destruction would be far more expensive.

So far I have $30 cash put aside, so I guess that means my big trip so far will be.... happy hour at Chili's!! Kidding.... give me a break, I just decided this tonight that that's the only cash I have in my wallet :)

TEEN MOM 2

This post has been a long time coming. Every time I watch this show, I find myself laughing out loud, yelling out loud, and when it came to the finale this week...crying out loud. What can I say, I'm a sucker for a country wedding! With the end of the season, comes my recap. Lets begin......

JANELLE: I hate you. That's all. Not really.... there is more. I think you're the biggest idiot I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of people in many different states. I wish I could say that your terrible yellow highlights were the worst of your problems, but I'm afraid those would be the easiest to fix. My favorite moment of your drug induced stupidity was when your mom kicked you out for the 27th time and you said to your boyfriend (ugh...we'll touch on that later), "I'll show her. I'll have more money than her. I'll have a nicer house than her!" Honey baby, you spent half the season homeless. You got fired from your job and at one point, your car didn't even have a front bumper! Glad to see on Enews that you got arrested for none other than the trashiest crime of all-- not public urination-- girl fighting. Your baby is cute though.

CHELSEA: You poor poor girl. I just hate that you have it so rough. I wish you had a rich parent to look out for you. Oh, I forgot-- YOU DO! Shoot girrrrrrl.... I'm sorry you get to drive around in a VW Beetle. I'm sorry your dad gave you A HOUSE. I'm sorry your boyfriend didn't want to hold your hand at the state fair (I'm also sorry you felt those shorts were appropriate for yes, a fair). The only guy your boyfriend surpasses is Kiefer, and he is a broke criminal with an afro. We won't brag.

KAILYN: Antwon Dotson would look at you and say, "you are so dumb. So dumb. For real!" I don't even know what to say about you. I just played two rounds of words with friends because even blogging about you bores me.

LEAH: You have come leaps and bounds from 16 and preggo! I have to admit that I didn't like you then because you pushed away the best thing you had-- a baby daddy that wanted to be with you! However... you saw the grass is greener on the other side of the mobile home and planted your garden! I'm so happy you got married and you were a beautiful bride. I not only shed tears of joy during your wedding, but tears of relief that you didn't wear your hair in scrunched curls with straight bangs, PTL!! Oh, and your daughter's pink glasses are presh...just presh!

KIEFER: Go back to jail... I'm pretty sure that's the only place you'll get a job. Maybe you can save up for a pack of cigs or an ink pen!

I'm simply on the edge of my seat waiting for the TEEN MOM 2 special with Dr. Drew! From the sneak peak I saw, Chelsea has better hair, which I'm sure her dad paid for as well. Oh man...

Grab Your Coat!!

It's snowing at my parents in STL. My mom just sent me this picture, with the caption "and still snowing!

Bummer. This reminds me of college in Kentucky. The weather would have already warmed up, we were all tan from spring break, and you come home to a random week of snow in March or April. Yuck.

I'm meeting some friends at Pete and Sam's tonight for dinner. Hopeful for two things: this cold rain will subside, and there will be gypsies there so Elise can see them. Put on your velour jumpsuit and grab last seasons Juicy Couture handbag...we're going to dinner!!

Fun Foto Friday

Hmmm... must be nice. Henry is the first dog I've known in my 27 years of life that prefers to sleep with his head on a pillow. Must be his proper English heritage.

I've Started Blogging... I'm so 3008

Oh wow... I've been meaning to start blogging for a while now, but it seems like there is always something else more exciting-- like the Tory Burch boutique at RueLaLa.com or a Teen Mom 2 marathon (Don't even get me started on Janelle...). Or, my recent addiction, words with friends. One might assume I am soooo trendy with my blogging and such, that I have iphones on the regular, but that's not so. I still have an LG flip-- it's purple and scratched. I play this wonderful game on my ipod touch that I got last year. Very cool.... except that I don't have wireless internet at my apartment. So, I can only play words with friends at work or when I am able to jew my neighbors wireless connection, which is not on the reg. Bummer. I will get wireless this summer when my sister comes to live with me, but for now, I'm connected, using my laptop in the same comfortable, over sized chair that I did when I lived with my parents.

About this words with friends hooplah.... I love it. I love that I'm stimulating my brain, which gives me hope that I will chase off Alzheimer's for at least 65 more years. I'm getting quite good at learning that it's all about tile placement. I love searching those little squares over and over in order to get maximum value for my three letter word that has no vowel because I was given three H's, two G's, an X and a Q. Great.... and on top of that, some chick named Jana Filsinger pulls a real C.U.Next.Tuesday move and adds an I to make the word FIN.... for 60 points. Words with friends, not so friendly anymore!

Although the name of my blog depicts the furry loves of my life, you won't come here constantly reading stories about my dogs. Although, if you did, you'd love it.... just like I love reading about the things YOU love. To get to better acquainted with my four legged friends, here they are:

Harley, who is five and still bossy. We like to dance around the apartment to Savage's song "Swing."

Henry, just turned one and he is a big baby with an even bigger heart. He likes to eat.

I would say TGIF, but I work every Saturday. So, I will finally watch "The Town" which has been sitting in its netflix envelope for about 2 weeks. Ohhhhhh, and I just got a very exciting phone call from my sister Taylor, but it's a secret. Makes me want to go back to college REAL bad!
